What is Budget Binders
Not all students receive financial education in school, and many report feeling unprepared to make real-world financial decisions as a result. Only about half of Americans have enough savings to cover three months of expenses.
Financial literacy shapes a lifetime of decisions, yet up to 41% of teens can't tell a credit card from a debit card or explain what a 401(k) is. Gen Z adults score lowest of any generation on basic personal finance questions, averaging just 38% correct versus 54% for baby boomers; this gap shows up later as weaker budgeting, less long-term planning, and thinner emergency savings.
Without foundational skills, even a steady income doesn’t always lead to financial stability.

Participants assemble budget binders that equip children with foundational financial literacy tools and share words of wisdom based on each financial theme. These binders include four sections: Earning, Saving and Budgeting, Spending/Debt Management, and Financial Planning.
