What is Foster Forward?
Did you know that 1 in 10 children worldwide are at risk of growing up alone?
Children are moved from foster home to foster home, often separated from their siblings and not encouraged to develop professional skills. In fact, only 50% of youth in U.S. foster care graduate from high school and only 3% earn a bachelor’s degree. Unprepared for independence, they experience high rates of teen pregnancy, public assistance, incarceration and homelessness.
For over 70 years, SOS Children’s Villages has been the largest nongovernmental organization dedicated to the care of orphaned and abandoned children. Their comprehensive approach of preventing child abandonment, offering long-term care for children in need and empowering young people with the resources to reach their full potential, transforms the lives of millions of children and families worldwide every single year.
WeHero will educate participants about the challenges faced by children in the foster care system worldwide and the incredible work that the SOS Children’s Villages does to support them.
After watching an educational keynote about the cause, participants will put together a welcome home package for a child in need. This includes a treasure box decorated by participants with games and special items for the children.
We ship the entire volunteer experience to your home, office, or other venue along with educational materials, packaging, prepaid shipping labels, and all the needed supplies. Join us as we learn about the cause, make an impact, and connect over a fun activity!
